Strengthening skin quality at its foundation

Extracellular Matrix (ECM) Skin Booster

When it comes to anti-ageing, collagen often gets the spotlight. However, healthy, resilient skin depends on a deeper support system — the extracellular matrix (ECM). This structural network supports collagen, elastin, and skin cells, playing a key role in maintaining skin strength and elasticity over time.

The ECM skin booster is a Korean-developed skin booster designed to support overall skin quality and structural integrity by replenishing key components of the skin’s extracellular matrix. Unlike traditional skin boosters that focus on specific aspects of the skin, this treatment supports the underlying framework that maintains skin strength, elasticity, and resilience using components from human skin tissue.

Why is the Extracellular Matrix (ECM) Important?

The extracellular matrix is a network of collagen, elastin, and other structural proteins that provide the skin with strength, flexibility, and resilience. It can be thought of as the skin’s foundational support system. Much like a bank, the stronger the reserves built early, the more stable and resilient the structure remains with age.

As the ECM gradually declines due to ageing and environmental stress, the skin’s ability to maintain firmness, elasticity, and overall quality may also diminish. This can also affect how well collagen performs, even when collagen-stimulating treatments are used. That’s why addressing skin ageing at a deeper structural level is increasingly important.

What Is An ECM Skin Booster?

The ECM skin booster is formulated using micronised human acellular dermal matrix (hADM), a purified material derived from donated human skin tissue. During processing, all cells, DNA, and antigenic components are removed, leaving behind a spectrum of extracellular matrix components commonly found in human skin. Its approximate composition includes:

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Collagen (approximately 89%), predominantly Type I collagen, which provides structural support to the dermis

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Elastin (approximately 3%), which contributes to skin elasticity and recoil

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Glycosaminoglycans (approximately 0.4%), including hyaluronic acid, supporting hydration and skin comfort

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Other ECM components (approximately 7.6%), such as fibronectin, laminin, tenascin, growth factor-related proteins, and matrix-regulating enzymes

This multi-component composition makes it unlike conventional skin boosters.

How Does The ECM Skin Booster Work?

The extracellular matrix plays a central role in maintaining skin structure and supporting normal cellular activity. As part of the natural ageing process, ECM components gradually decline, which may contribute to reduced skin elasticity, uneven texture, and a loss of skin resilience.

The ECM skin booster works by supplementing the skin with ECM components derived from human acellular dermal matrix. Once administered by a trained medical professional, the micronised ECM integrates into the dermal layer and supports the surrounding skin environment. This helps to optimise conditions for fibroblast activity and skin regeneration, contributing to gradual improvements in skin texture, hydration, and elasticity over time.

What Are The Benefits of An ECM Skin Booster?

The ECM skin booster is commonly selected by individuals seeking overall skin quality improvement rather than volumisation. Based on manufacturer data and clinical observations, potential benefits may include:

Improved skin hydration

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Smoother skin texture

Enhanced skin elasticity

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Better skin radiance

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Tightening of enlarged pores

Reduction in redness and uneven pigmentation

As with all aesthetic treatments, individual outcomes vary and depend on factors such as skin condition, age, lifestyle, and treatment protocol.

Is The ECM Skin Booster Safe?

AlloClean™ Technology

The ECM skin booster is derived from human acellular dermal matrix (hADM), which means it mirrors the natural composition of human skin. Donor skin is processed using AlloClean™ Technology, a proprietary tissue-processing platform designed to remove cells, pathogens, and antigenic material while preserving the native three-dimensional ECM structure.

This approach allows the ECM to retain its natural collagen and elastin scaffold, supporting integration with surrounding skin tissue. Because cellular elements are removed during processing, the remaining ECM maintains high biocompatibility while reducing the risk of immune reactions.

Tissue Banking Accreditation

The skin booster is developed by L&C Bio, a company that uses hADM sourced from a tissue bank that adheres to internationally recognised safety and quality standards. The source tissue is processed under strict regulatory oversight. Each batch undergoes controlled processing and documentation to ensure traceability and consistency.

Materials derived from the same hADM platform have been supplied to thousands of medical institutions worldwide, including hospitals and specialist clinics, reflecting established use in medical settings.

What Areas Can The ECM Skin Booster Target?

The ECM skin booster may be administered to multiple areas where skin quality concerns are present.

Common treatment areas include the face, particularly the cheeks, under-eye region, forehead, and perioral area. It may also be used on the neck, décolletage, and hands, where signs of ageing and skin thinning are common.

A medical consultation is essential to determine suitability and appropriate treatment areas.

Mizu Re2O ECM Booster Treatment Areas

Who Are Suitable Candidates For The ECM Skin Booster?

The ECM skin booster may be suitable for individuals who are concerned about early to moderate signs of skin ageing, skin dehydration, loss of elasticity, or compromised skin texture. It is often considered by patients who prefer a skin-quality-focused approach rather than volume-enhancing injectables.
Patients with underlying medical conditions, skin infections, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should undergo a thorough medical assessment before treatment.

What Is The ECM Skin Booster Treatment Process Like in Singapore?

Consultation

Before your treatment, your doctor will assess your skin condition, discuss your concerns and goals, and advise whether the ECM skin booster is suitable for you.

Preparation & Numbing

At Mizu, we apply topical numbing cream for approximately 30 minutes to ensure comfort during the treatment.

Treatment Procedure

The treatment typically takes 15–20 minutes, depending on the areas treated. You may experience mild pricks from the needle, and this is generally well-tolerated.

Post-Treatment

You may experience mild redness and bumps that resolve over a day. You are advised to avoid strenuous exercise, prolonged sun exposure and alcohol for 1 to 2 days post-treatment.

Can The ECM Skin Booster Be Combined With Other Treatments?

The ECM skin booster can be incorporated into combination treatment plans to support overall skin quality and address multiple skin concerns concurrently. Combination approaches are often recommended as different technologies work through complementary mechanisms. The suitability, sequencing, and timing of each treatment are determined following a detailed medical consultation.

Non-invasive Skin Tightening Treatments

For firmer skin & youthful contours

Non-invasive skin tightening treatments like HIFU, Ultherapy, Sofwave, Thermage, and XERF are commonly used to address skin laxity by stimulating collagen remodelling. For collagen to function effectively, however, it requires a healthy extracellular matrix. When paired with the ECM skin booster, this combination addresses both collagen stimulation and structural support. While energy-based tightening treatments encourage new collagen formation, the ECM skin booster reinforces the ECM that helps maintain and stabilise these collagen fibres over time. This supports firmer, more youthful-looking skin through a balanced, long-term skin quality strategy.

Laser Treatments

For brightening & clearing of unwanted pigmentation

Laser-based treatments are frequently used to target concerns such as uneven skin tone, pigmentation, and dullness by delivering controlled energy to the skin. The ECM skin booster may be introduced alongside laser treatments to help support skin recovery and improve overall skin condition. By replenishing ECM components, the skin booster may complement laser treatments by enhancing skin hydration, texture, and structural support, particularly in patients undergoing treatments aimed at brightening and pigment management.

RF Microneedling

For improvements in pore size, texture, scars & overall skin quality

RF microneedling combines controlled microneedling with radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture. This treatment is commonly used for concerns such as acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin surface. When paired with ECM Skin Booster, the combination targets both collagen stimulation and ECM replenishment. This may support improvements in skin smoothness, texture uniformity, and overall skin quality over time, particularly in patients with textural concerns.

Hyaluronic Acid Skin Booster

For hydration, glow & strengthening of barrier function

Hyaluronic acid (HA) skin boosters are widely used to improve skin hydration, glow, and barrier function by attracting and retaining moisture within the skin. Combining HA skin boosters with ECM Skin Booster allows for a dual approach, addressing both hydration and structural skin support. While HA primarily enhances moisture and skin suppleness, the ECM skin booster focuses on reinforcing the extracellular matrix, making this combination suitable for patients with dry, dehydrated, or compromised skin who are seeking improved skin comfort and radiance.

Speak with our team today to find out if the Extracellular Matrix (ECM) skin booster is suitable for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the ECM Skin Booster treatment painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as tolerable. A topical anaesthetic is applied prior to the procedure to enhance comfort. You may experience mild pricks from the needle, and this is generally well-tolerated.
Clinical and observational studies indicate that improvements in skin parameters such as pore appearance, texture, redness, pigmentation, radiance, elasticity, and hydration may be observed as early as several days after treatment. Follow-up assessments conducted over one month have shown progressive improvements in these skin quality indicators over time. Based on available data, the skin-enhancing effects of the ECM skin booster may be sustained for several months, with some patients maintaining results for up to six months or longer. Individual outcomes may vary.
A treatment course of 3 or more sessions, spaced approximately 1 month apart, is commonly recommended. The exact number of sessions and maintenance schedule will depend on individual skin condition, treatment goals, and the doctor’s assessment.

Downtime following an ECM skin booster treatment is generally minimal. Temporary redness, mild swelling, or bruising may occur at the injection sites and typically resolve within a few days. Gentle cleansing may be carried out after three to four hours, and makeup can usually be applied the following day. Patients are advised to avoid irritating the treated areas and to refrain from saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise for approximately one week after treatment. Keeping the skin well hydrated during the recovery period is also recommended.

A comfortable alternative for skin tightening

XERF RF Skin Tightening

XERF is a non-invasive anti-ageing treatment from Korea that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin. It offers minimal discomfort and no significant downtime, making it suitable for individuals seeking firmer, more lifted skin without surgery.
XERF RF Skin Tightening Mizu Aesthetic Clinic

What is XERF?

XERF is a non-surgical skin-tightening treatment that uses the first-ever dual-frequency monopolar RF technology, rather than the traditional single-frequency RF used by many devices. While older RF treatments typically reach only one depth, XERF is designed to target the shallow, middle and deep layers of the skin. This allows it to heat the dermis thoroughly without damaging the surface.

This thermal energy activates the skin’s natural repair mechanisms, triggering fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. Over time, this enhances firmness, elasticity, and skin structure.

XERF is developed by Cynosure Lutronic, the company behind many clinically proven medical lasers used in aesthetic clinics worldwide. The device is also approved by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).

How Does XERF Work?

XERF combines two RF frequencies – 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz – to deliver energy at multiple depths, including the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) layer, which is typically targeted in surgical facelifts. This multi-layer approach supports both surface improvement and deep structural tightening.

XERF’s thermal energy creates a controlled, mild “injury” within the skin. This activates fibroblasts, encouraging them to:
  • Produce new collagen and elastin
  • Reorganise existing collagen fibres
  • Compact and strengthen skin structure
As a result, the skin gradually becomes firmer, denser and more lifted. Immediate tightening occurs due to collagen contraction, while long-term improvements develop as new collagen matures over the following months.
Targeted Multi-Layer Treatment

XERF selectively treats three different depths depending on the area:

Shallow (6.78 MHz)

Ideal for thinner areas such as the forehead. This targets the dermis layer to refresh skin texture and firmness.

Middle (6.78 MHz)

Suitable for areas with slightly thicker tissue, such as the cheeks and neck. This penetrates from the dermis down to the superficial adipose (fat) layer.

Deep (6.78 MHz + 2 MHz)

Designed for denser areas like the lower face and jowls. This reaches from the dermis into the deep adipose/SMAS layers for structural lifting.

The Technology Behind XERF

XERF is designed with multiple built-in technologies to ensure precise energy delivery, comfort and safety throughout the treatment.

Wave Fit™ Pulse Technology
Wave Fit™ automatically adjusts each RF pulse based on real-time feedback from your skin. This ensures every pulse is:
  • Effective
  • Gentle
  • Delivered at an optimal therapeutic temperature
Each pulse reaches 55–65°C in the dermis, the ideal range for collagen stimulation, while the machine monitors surface temperature to prevent overheating. If the skin surface exceeds 43°C, RF energy automatically pauses for safety.
Advanced Integrated Cryogen Delivery (ICD) Cooling
To enhance comfort, XERF releases up to 12 cooling bursts per shot to maintain surface temperature. This cooling system helps:
  • Minimise heat-related discomfort
  • Protect the outer skin
  • Support deeper penetration of RF energy
Customisable Treatment with Four Effector Sizes
XERF features four different handpiece sizes to treat areas of various shapes and contours. This allows precise treatment of:
  • Under-eye wrinkles
  • Fine lines around the mouth
  • Jawline and neck
  • Broader zones such as the cheeks or forehead

What Are The Benefits Of XERF?

XERF offers comprehensive anti-ageing benefits, making it a versatile option for those seeking non-surgical skin tightening:
Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Tightens and defines facial contours for a sculpted jawline and lifted skin

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Smooths fine lines and wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and laugh lines

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Minimal discomfort & suitable for those sensitive to pain from heat treatments

Fillers - Logo | Mizu

Non-invasive & no significant downtime, allowing immediate return to daily activities

Results may vary depending on individual skin conditions and treatment plans.

Why We Love XERF

Comfortable Experience

XERF stands out as one of the most comfortable skin-tightening treatments available today. Many traditional tightening procedures are known for being intense, with heat or deep-layer energy delivery that can feel uncomfortable for some individuals. XERF’s Wave Fit™ pulse system and integrated cooling technology allow energy to be delivered in a controlled, even and gentle manner. This results in a more pleasant experience while still effectively reaching collagen-stimulating temperatures within the skin.

Comprehensive Skin Tightening

XERF is able to target three distinct depths — shallow, middle and deep layers, including deeper structural tissue. Instead of relying on a single-depth approach, XERF works more comprehensively, reaching from the dermis down to deeper fat and support layers. This creates a tightening effect that feels similar to combining several skin-lifting technologies in one session, yet in a smoother and more streamlined treatment.

By offering comfort, depth and precision at the same time, XERF provides a balanced, modern approach to skin rejuvenation that fits seamlessly into both early anti-ageing plans and long-term maintenance routines.

What Areas Can XERF Target?

Consultation

Before your treatment, your doctor will assess your skin condition, discuss your concerns and goals, and advise whether XERF is suitable for you.

Preparation & Numbing

At Mizu, we apply topical numbing cream for approximately 30 minutes to ensure comfort. While many clinics in Singapore perform XERF without numbing cream, we prioritise patient comfort whenever possible. This will allow us to perform the treatment at optimum settings to ensure ideal results.

Treatment Procedure

The treatment typically takes 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the areas treated. You may feel a warm sensation as the RF energy works through the deeper layers of your skin. This is generally well-tolerated.

Post-Treatment

You may experience mild redness that resolves quickly post-treatment. There is no downtime, and you can resume normal activities and apply makeup immediately.

Can XERF Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Yes. XERF works well alongside a range of aesthetic treatments to address different aspects of ageing. When combined appropriately, these treatments can complement one another to enhance overall results. Your doctor will assess your needs and recommend a personalised plan.

Other Skin-Tightening Treatments

XERF can be paired with ultrasound-based lifting treatments such as Ultherapy, Ultraformer MPT or Titanium Lifting. While XERF uses dual-frequency RF to stimulate collagen and tighten tissues across multiple depths, including the SMAS, ultrasound devices deliver highly focused energy to deeper, more targeted planes.

When used together, ultrasound treatments can provide the foundation for deeper lifting, while XERF reinforces the results by strengthening the surrounding structures and enhancing surface firmness. This combination may be useful for individuals seeking more comprehensive lifting or long-term maintenance.

Collagen Bio-Stimulators and Bio-Remodelling Treatments

Collagen bio-stimulators and bio-remodelling treatments help “bank” collagen within the skin by encouraging gradual, natural regeneration. These treatments work from within to improve elasticity, firmness and hydration.

When combined with XERF, which stimulates collagen through thermal energy, patients receive a multi-modal approach to structural improvement. XERF supports deeper tightening while injectables target overall dermal quality, allowing both treatments to complement each other’s outcomes.

Skin Boosters

Skin boosters help improve overall skin quality by delivering hydrating and bioactive ingredients directly into the dermal layer. Depending on the formulation, they can enhance moisture levels, refine fine lines, improve elasticity and smoothen skin texture. When paired with XERF, skin boosters complement the treatment by addressing surface hydration and plumpness, while XERF works deeper to lift and tighten the underlying structures.

RF Microneedling

RF microneedling focuses on improving surface texture by delivering RF energy through micro-channels created in the skin. It targets concerns such as enlarged pores, mild acne scarring, uneven texture and superficial lines. When paired with XERF, RF microneedling refines the skin’s surface while XERF strengthens and tightens deeper layers. This layered approach can provide improvement across multiple levels of the skin, from the epidermis down to the deeper supporting structures.
Speak with our team today to find out if XERF is suitable for you.

Bio-Remodelling Skin Booster

Home > Treatment

Bio-remodelling treatments have become one of the more sought-after minimally invasive solutions for individuals looking to improve skin quality and address early signs of ageing. Unlike fillers that add volume to specific areas, or skinboosters that focus primarily on hydration, bio-remodelling treatments are unique because they combine both benefits in one treatment.

This treatment is often referred to as an “injectable moisturiser” due to its ability to provide deep, lasting hydration, while also stimulating the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production. The result is gradual, natural-looking improvement in skin firmness, elasticity, and radiance without altering your facial expressions.

The Role of Hyaluronic Acid in Skin Health

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule found in our skin, joints, and connective tissue. Its primary function is to bind water and retain moisture, which keeps the skin plump, supple, and well-hydrated. In fact, HA can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it one of the skin’s most powerful natural hydrators.

Beyond hydration, hyaluronic acid also plays an important role in supporting collagen production. Collagen is the structural protein responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. As we age, collagen levels decline, leading to sagging skin and the appearance of fine lines. By maintaining a hydrated environment in the dermis, hyaluronic acid helps create the optimal conditions for fibroblasts (the skin cells that produce collagen and elastin) to function effectively.

This means that replenishing hyaluronic acid in the skin not only restores moisture but also indirectly supports the natural production of collagen and elastin, contributing to stronger, firmer, and more resilient skin over time.

How the Bio-Remodelling Skin Booster Works

The science behind bio-remodelling lies in its unique use of stabilised hybrid complexes of both low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid.

Unlike fillers, which remain in one area to add volume, bio-remodelling spreads evenly under the skin for natural-looking results. Its unique thermal cross-linking process ensures that the hyaluronic acid is stabilised without the use of chemical agents, allowing for a slow, sustained release after injection.

In summary, this treatment helps support:

The Technology

Bio-remodelling is created using a proprietary thermal cross-linking process that does not rely on chemical cross-linking compounds. Instead, heat is used to bind low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid into stabilised complexes.

This process alters the structure and behaviour of hyaluronic acid, enabling it to “biomodulate” skin tissue. In practice, this means that it improves hydration, restores volume, and stimulates collagen production simultaneously.

Thermal cross-linking also allows the HA to be released gradually and spread evenly when injected under the skin. This dual action makes it particularly effective for improving skin laxity in a natural way.

Importantly, the formulation does not contain chemical additives such as BBDE or Lycodine. Its unique production method ensures consistent scattering and absorption in skin tissue, supporting both safety and efficacy.

Mizu Pro5hlo Areas of Treatment | Mizu

Bio-remodelling is not a replacement for fillers or muscle-relaxing injectables. Instead, it rejuvenates the skin and can complement other treatments by enhancing overall results. The most suitable treatment approach depends on individual needs and should be determined by consultation with a qualified doctor.

What to Expect During Treatment?

Bio-remodelling injectables are usually administered in 2 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. The treatment involves small injections placed at specific points, and numbing cream is typically applied beforehand for comfort.

After the first session, patients may notice increased hydration and a fresher appearance. The second session boosts and prolongs the results. Improvements continue to develop over the following weeks as collagen and elastin production is stimulated.

Downtime is generally minimal. Small bumps may appear at the injection sites but usually resolve within a day or two as the product disperses naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions are needed?

A typical course consists of 2 sessions, 4 weeks apart. After the first session, patients may notice increased hydration and a fresher appearance. The second session boosts and prolongs the results. Improvements continue to develop over the following weeks as collagen and elastin production is stimulated. Maintenance treatments can be done every 6 to 12 months, depending on individual needs.

Most patients find the treatment tolerable as the treatment is administered using a very small needle with only five points of injection on each side of the face. To make the experience more comfortable, a numbing cream is usually applied beforehand. Some patients may feel mild stinging or pressure during the procedure, but this typically subsides quickly.

There is minimal downtime. Small bumps at the injection sites are common and usually settle within a few hours as the product disperses naturally under the skin. There is no need to massage these bumps, as they are designed to spread evenly on their own.

In some cases, particularly in patients with thinner skin or when treating the neck, these bumps may remain visible for a longer period. If this occurs, they can be gently massaged to help reduce the visibility and speed up recovery. Mild bruising may also occur, but this generally resolves within a few days, allowing most people to return to their usual activities shortly after treatment.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the body and is broken down over time, making it biocompatible and generally well tolerated. Bio-remodelling does not contain chemical cross-linking agents, and adverse reactions are rare. As with any injectable procedure, minor side effects such as temporary bruising, swelling, or tenderness may occur.

To ensure safe and effective results, the treatment should always be performed by a qualified and experienced doctor as there are vital blood vessels to avoid when injecting in areas such as the neck. The injection technique is also important in achieving optimum results.

FDA-approved ultrasound technology for skin tightening

No Downtime, Minimal Pain
anti-ageing Treatment

After the age of 20, a person produces about 1 percent less collagen in the skin each year. As a result, skin becomes thinner and more fragile with age. Starting from our mid-20’s, collagen and elastin start to break down, causing our skin to wrinkle.

Sofwave Device | Mizu

What is Sofwave?

Sofwave is a clinically proven, non-invasive approach to rebuilding collagen. It is FDA-cleared for non-invasive skin tightening and for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.

How Does It Work?

Sofwave is a patented ultrasound technology. It uses proprietary high-intensity, low divergence, multiple ultrasound beam technology for non-invasive skin tightening & improvement in fine lines and wrinkles.

The ultrasound energy makes micro-injuries to the mid-dermis, directly stimulating repair and collagen production in the layer that is most important for skin tightening.

Sofwave’s high-frequency ultrasound beams travel through the skin layer and create an array of volumetric cylindrical shaped (3D) thermal zones, resulting in targeted tissue heating and generation of new collagen. The heat energy also immediately causes contraction of the skin, tightening it and improving fines lines.

The integrated cooling mechanism in the handpiece protects the epidermis and assists in focusing the effect in the mid-dermis. Because of this advanced integrated cooling mechanism, Sofwave is able to generate energy and temperature much higher and stronger than other devices, and at the same time ensure that the procedure is still comfortable. Temperature under the skin, in the mid-dermis layer, reaches between 60-70 degree Celsius. This strong energy ensures that results are consistent and more significant in producing collagen.

This results in mainly collagen stimulation deeper down in the skin, and at the same time the stimulation of the SMAS layer. The high energy output at these deeper combined depths results in the effect of a facelift, and less for loose crepey skin and fine lines.

Sofwave Treatment | Mizu

Only targets at 1.5mm depth

Sofwave

Energy generated at 1.5mm is higher than other skin tightening devices, yet safe and comfortable due to the integrated cooling device that cools the epidermis and prevents damage to the skin.

The results due to the focused energy at 1.5mm is the contraction and stimulation of collagen on the outer layer of the skin, resulting in very effective tightening (instead of lifting). This helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the skin surface, stimulates and thickens the skin, tightens loose crepey skin, and rejuvenates the patient’s appearance.

The ultrasound energy makes micro-injuries to the mid-dermis, directly stimulating repair and collagen production in the layer that is most important for skin tightening.

For tightening with the Sofwave, the skin will feel tighter and firmer, especially for those with skin laxity issues. The tightening of the skin results in the reduction of lines and looseness. Although the tightening effect helps a little in lifting the face, the overall muscle lifting effects are not as significant as the HIFU’s.

As for a lifting effect with the HIFU/Ultherapy, one will be able to notice that the face, especially the lower face, will be lifted from within. This results in a sharper lower face, reduced jowling, a mild pulled-back effect like a facelift, and the lifting of certain areas such as the eyes or brows, etc. As this lifting effect targets the deeper layers of the skin, the effects on fine lines and wrinkles on the surface of the skin are not as significant as the Sofwave or Thermage’s.

All Treatments: Thermage FLX, Thermage CPT & HIFU / ULTHERA | Mizu

How is it different from Thermage?

Since Sofwave does tightening like Thermage FLX, what is the difference between Sofwave and Thermage? The main difference is that Sofwave uses ultrasound energy while Thermage uses radiofrequency energy.

Thermage

Sofwave

Comparing Sofwave and Thermage, Sofwave would be able to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the skin more effectively than Thermage as the energy concentrated on tightening the skin is higher. Thermage, at a higher power setting, would also be able to achieve good tightening of fine lines and wrinkles but is more uncomfortable than Sofwave as the energy spots of Sofwave are much smaller and less painful. In addition, because Sofwave’s energy is concentrated into smaller spots and at 1.5mm depth, the results of Sofwave on forehead lines is more significant than Thermage. The forehead area is usually an area that has not much soft tissue and the depth of 3mm that Thermage targets at is sometimes too deep for a high-powered setting.

Sofwave Treatment | Mizu
Sofwave Machine | Mizu

Another advantage of Sofwave is that unlike Thermage, which uses a fixed number of shots of 600 or 900 shots in their handpieces, the Sofwave treatment can be more customised to each patient’s needs.

For example, if a patient just needs/wants to target her neck area, a 600 shot Thermage procedure would be too excessive and expensive. Sofwave allows the flexibility of customising the number of shots required for different areas and treatments, and is more cost effective for patients.

However, due to the deeper depth that Thermage targets, Thermage can sometimes help patients with less facial volume achieve a lifting effect. Thermage also has a specialised eye handpiece that is specifically used for the eyelids, a function that Sofwave does not possess.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the process like?

Before the procedure, a layer of topical numbing cream is applied for 30-40mins. The Sofwave procedure typically lasts between 40-50mins, depending on the areas being treated.

Results from the Sofwave can be seen immediately due to heat and oedema created by the procedure. However, actual results will take 10-12 weeks like all other collagen-stimulating procedures like the HIFU or Thermage.

The skin can be slightly pink or flushed for an hour or so after the procedure. Make-up can be safely used after the procedure. There is no other downtime from the procedure and patients can resume their daily activities as per normal.

Some patients can experience a mild soreness the next day after the procedure. This soreness is due to the micro-injuries to the collagen structure in the skin and can last for a few days. This soreness is not experienced by everyone.

Only 1 treatment of Sofwave is needed. Depending on individuals, the treatment can be repeated once every 12-24 months.

Sofwave is a safe procedure for all skin types. Anyone with skin laxity concerns or a general anti-aging maintenance is suitable for Sofwave.

Mini HIFU

Home > Treatment

What is HIFU?

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, or HIFU, is a non-invasive treatment designed to target both superficial and deeper skin layers, including the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS). By stimulating collagen production, HIFU delivers a noticeable lifting effect without the need for surgery.

Many people associate ultrasound with medical imaging, such as prenatal scans. However, HIFU harnesses ultrasound technology in a unique way, creating micro “hot spots” beneath the skin. These hot spots stimulate collagen production, tighten connective tissues, and reduce fat cells, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Think of it like using a magnifying glass to concentrate sunlight into a single, powerful point. In HIFU treatments, beams of ultrasound energy are focused precisely at various skin depths to achieve optimal tightening and fat reduction. Importantly, these beams pass through the skin’s surface without causing damage, as the energy is concentrated beneath the surface layers.

How Does HIFU Work?

HIFU works by targeting different skin layers at specific depths with focused energy. The Ultraformer MPT HIFU, for example, can reach depths of 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm and more.

Ultraformer MPT 1.5mm - Device | Mizu

1.5mm Depth

The Ultraformer HIFU can lighten pigmentation and brighten the skin. Clinical studies have shown that melanin levels decrease after several weekly treatments.

Ultraformer MPT 2mm - Device | Mizu

2mm Depth

Unique to the Ultraformer MPT HIFU is a 2mm handpiece designed for tightening the delicate skin around the eyes. Because the skin around these areas is thinner, the 2mm handpiece targets the dermis layer more accurately than the 3mm handpiece.

Ultraformer MPT 3mm - Device | Mizu

3mm Depth

This depth is where structural collagen is found. The Ultraformer HIFU delivers precise energy to stimulate collagen production in this layer for skin tightening.

Ultraformer MPT 4.5mm - Device | Mizu

4.5mm Depth

The Ultraformer HIFU uniquely targets the SMAS layer, offering a non-surgical facelift effect. This depth is crucial for tightening and lifting, similar to what is achieved in a surgical facelift.

Did you know?

The SMAS layer is only found along the sides of the face and the jawline, so the 4.5mm setting is typically not used on the cheeks.

What is the Difference Between a Mini and a Full HIFU Procedure?

A mini HIFU involves a series of treatments spaced 2-3 months apart, utilising lower power settings or fewer shots compared to a full HIFU procedure. This results in less energy delivered per session, making mini HIFU an excellent choice for painless face lifting. However, it is less effective at reducing facial fat and requires multiple sessions for optimal results.

Conversely, a full HIFU procedure, such as the Ultraformer MPT or Ultherapy, is a single, high-intensity treatment. This one-time procedure can reach temperatures up to 72°C under the skin, significantly tightening connective tissues and reducing unwanted fat cells. The higher energy levels are necessary to destroy fat cells, providing more dramatic and lasting results.

Which HIFU Are You More Suitable for?

Choosing between a mini HIFU and a full HIFU procedure depends on your facial shape, desired outcomes, and ability to tolerate downtime.

Mini HIFU
Full HIFU

For skin tightening

Minimal fat removal.

Destroys fat cells and reduces facial jowling.

Lifting & jawline contouring

Makes the face slightly slimmer and sharper. Defines jawline, but less so if more facial volume is present.

Defines and sharpens jawline by reducing significant facial volume.

Downtime & discomfort

Minimal downtime with no swelling and less pain. No redness.

Swelling and soreness for a few days. No redness.

Frequency

Done once every 2-3 months.

Once every 12-18 months.

Who is it for?

Those looking for general maintenance and lifting.

Those looking for full lifting and sculpting of facial contours.

Mini HIFU

Ideal for those seeking anti-ageing maintenance with minimal downtime. It’s perfect for enhancing a defined jawline but less effective for those with chubbier faces due to its lower fat reduction capability. Mini HIFU typically requires multiple sessions.

Full HIFU

Best for those needing significant fat reduction and a more pronounced lifting effect. It’s a single procedure performed every 12-18 months, with possible additional treatment after six months for those with more facial volume. Expect some downtime, including swelling and soreness, particularly around the lower jawline.

Our doctors will assess your needs and recommend the most suitable HIFU treatment for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mini HIFU painful?

Mini HIFU is relatively painless, especially after applying a numbing cream. Patients may experience slight soreness around bony areas, but it is generally very tolerable.

Full HIFU procedures, like Ultherapy, are more intense and can be uncomfortable due to the higher energy levels needed for fat destruction and lifting. At Mizu, we offer nerve blocks before a full HIFU or Ultherapy procedure to enhance comfort and effectiveness. These local anaesthesia injections are similar to those used by dentists, ensuring patients can tolerate higher energy settings for better results.

Full HIFU: Results start appearing after 3 months, as this is the minimum period required for the body to remove damaged fat cells. Improvements continue up to 5-6 months.

Mini HIFU: Results are visible after 8-10 weeks, with repeated sessions necessary for optimal outcomes.

A series of treatments spaced 2-3 months apart is recommended for optimal results. The number of sessions required will depend on the degree of skin laxity and desired end results.

What is the Ultraformer MPT HIFU?

The Ultraformer MPT, which stands for Micro Pulse Technology, is a new generation of HIFU (or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) technology from Classys, the manufacturer behind the popular Shurink in Korea. Upgraded from the Ultraformer III, the latest Ultraformer MPT operates at a higher speed and precision than before for non-surgical face lifting and skin tightening.

What is Different About the Ultraformer MPT HIFU?

HIFU works by targeting different skin layers at specific depths with focused energy. The Ultraformer MPT HIFU, for example, can reach depths of 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm and more.

Ultraformer MPT handpiece line | Mizu

Micro Pulse Technology

With its Micro Pulse Technology, the Ultraformer MPT delivers more precise and efficient shots of ultrasound energy to target specific areas in the skin with both Micro and Macro Focused Ultrasound (MMFU) energy. This ensures that more areas of the skin are targeted for better results.

With both Micro Pulse (MP) mode and Normal mode available, the HIFU treatment becomes more customisable as your doctor can tailor the settings to what your skin needs to achieve your desired results.

Ultraformer MPT HIFU - Device | Mizu

Ultra Booster Handpiece

The Ultraformer MPT comes with an additional Ultra Booster handpiece that can be used to target smaller and hard-to-reach areas such as the double chin more effectively. This handpiece can also be used with skinboosters and serums to enable penetration of active ingredients into the intended depth.

With the new Micro Pulsed Technology and Ultra Booster handpiece, the Ultraformer MPT HIFU treatment is now more precise and efficient, causes less discomfort and is 2.5x faster as compared to the previous generation of Ultraformer III.

Ultraformer MPT | Mizu

How Does the Ultraformer MPT HIFU Work?

Ultraformer MPT HIFU effectively treats the superficial and deeper skin layers, as well as the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) with a triple layer lifting effect. The treatment heats up and stimulates existing collagen fibres, causing them to thicken and shorten, giving you a long-term tightening and lifting effect.

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound is currently the only non-invasive medical device that allows the deepest penetration of energy, targeting depths of 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm and 4.5mm, for skin lifting and tightening.

Due to the high amount of energy that the Ultraformer MPT HIFU emits, it is also used to melt facial fats while tightening the area. This is particularly useful for lower facelifts, double chins, neck tightening, and especially jowl reduction (fats around the corner of the mouth).

Ultraformer MPT 1.5mm - Device | Mizu

1.5mm Depth

At this depth, the High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound is able to lighten pigmentation and brighten the skin. The amount of melanin in the skin will reduce by a fair amount after a few weekly treatments with the Ultraformer MPT HIFU.

Ultraformer MPT 2mm - Device | Mizu

2mm Depth

This handpiece is used to tighten the skin around the eyes. Because the skin here is thinner, the 2mm handpiece is more suitable and targets the dermis layer more accurately than the 3mm handpiece.

Ultraformer MPT 3mm - Device | Mizu

3mm Depth

At 3mm, the heating of skin tissue is targeted mainly at skin tightening. Radiofrequency procedures, like Thermage and the Sylfirm X, are often used for skin tightening via heating the skin. The Ultraformer MPT HIFU is also able target this depth, where structural collagen is situated, and deliver precise energy to stimulate collagen production.

Ultraformer MPT 4.5mm - Device | Mizu

4.5mm Depth

4.5mm is where the lifting effect takes place. The Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) is usually situated at this depth. This is the layer surgeons tighten when performing a surgical face lift. This means stimulation and tightening of the SMAS layer with the Ultraformer MPT HIFU will provide excellent lifting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ultraformer MPT HIFU non-surgical facelift treatment like?

The Ultrafomer MPT HIFU is a comfortable procedure. Patients might feel a mild ache along bony areas, like the jawline. This is due to the ultrasound energy reflecting off the facial contours.

Ultrafomer MPT HIFU takes approximately 60 minutes and has some downtime of mild swelling for around 3-5 days. Your skin may also appear slightly flushed immediately after the treatment, but any redness will subside within a few hours.

The number of shots required varies from patient to patient, depending on the severity of the jowls, size of face, power applied during the procedure etc. For a full-face procedure, between 800-900 shots is used.

A proper HIFU procedure is done once every 12 – 18 months. ‘HIFUs’ that need to be regularly are not true HIFUs. Read our blog post where Dr Tan explain how you can identify a true proper HIFU procedure.

Skin tightening and face lifts are standard offerings at the majority of clinics. Dr YZ Tan believes that facial rejuvenation procedures should be individualised, from lasers to HIFU non-surgical face lifts. What would be an ideal approach for one patient is not necessarily the same for someone else. During consultation, Dr YZ Tan will perform an examination to help you better understand the areas that can benefit most from HIFU.

Dr YZ Tan has had the honour of being invited by the Ultraformer manufacturer, Classys, to Seoul, Korea for a one-to-one discussion and training with renowned Seoul aesthetic doctor Dr Cho Chang-hwan of Dongan Centre Clinic. This allowed him to move away from standard protocols and develop his own techniques for individualised HIFU procedures.

At the same time, he was invited to Seoul for the International Microaesthetic Surgery Anatomy Masterclass (IMSA) hands-on practicals. This helped him recognise the specific anatomy of the facial SMAS layer, crucial in helping him formulate his own technique of facial tightening and lifting. From his training, Dr Tan has developed a technique that yields impressive results. Patients typically experience visible jowl and double chin reduction in one treatment*.

*Results may vary from patient to patient

Choose the Right HIFU

There are only a handful of HSA (Health Science Authority)-approved HIFU procedures that are certified to be operated by a trained doctor in Singapore. Although beauty salons also offer ‘HIFU’ procedures, these are not medical grade machines or HSA-approved for medical use by a doctor. A HIFU procedure performed at beauty salons might not only yield unsatisfactory results, but could also cause more damage than benefits if performed incorrectly.

The HIFU procedure in our clinic is done with a Ultraformer HIFU. Dr. YZ Tan’s preference for using this HIFU stems down to its effectiveness, safety and it being the most popular HIFU procedure in Korea. Another popular HIFU procedure, more popularly known as Ultherapy, is also available at Mizu.

The K-beauty Secret to a Radiant, V-shaped contour

Soprano Titanium Lifting

Soprano Titanium Lifting is a non-invasive skin tightening and lifting treatment that has gained cult status in Korea. It deploys a triple-wavelength laser technology to target multiple layers of the skin simultaneously to deliver results in skin tightening, facial contouring and skin tone enhancement. This procedure is known for its effectiveness, safety, and minimal downtime, making it ideal for those seeking visible rejuvenation without the need for surgical intervention.

Soprano Titanium Lifting - Machine | Mizu

How Titanium Lifting works

This treatment utilises three laser wavelengths within a single session to address various skin layers, offering a multi-dimensional approach.

755nm – Skin Brightening

This wavelength targets the upper layers of the skin and addresses pigmentation issues to support a more even-looking skin tone and radiance.

810nm – Skin Tightening

Reaches deeper skin layers to stimulate collagen production, which helps tighten and lift sagging skin.

1064nm – Facial Contouring

Penetrates into the deeper tissues to aid in jawline definition and reduce the appearance of a double chin, promoting a more sculpted facial outline.

Treatment delivery modes

This triple-wavelength technology is delivered in two modes:

SHR STACK mode:

Applies repeated laser passes over targeted areas using a stamping technique. This allows gradual energy build-up to reach deeper layers (6mm), supporting lifting and contouring effects.

SHR mode:

Involves sweeping laser motions at shallower depths (3–4mm) to assist with surface skin brightening and tightening.

Treatment intensity: customisable to your skin goals

Titanium Lifting offers two treatment intensities: Regular Mode and Intense Mode.

These options provide flexibility tailored to individual skin needs, prior treatments, and aesthetic goals.

Regular Mode

This mode delivers approximately 40J of energy across the full face. It is designed for individuals seeking routine skin maintenance or looking to complement other aesthetic treatments.

It may be suitable for:

  • Regular upkeep to support brighter, firmer-looking skin

  • Complementing and maintaining the effects of other energy-based treatments like HIFU, Ultherapy, Sofwave or Thermage

  • Easy combination treatment with solutions like radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, Mulptrex, skin boosters or collagen stimulators

Recommended frequency:

  • For maintenance after energy-based procedures: once every 3 months

  • If no other energy-based treatment was done: once every 1–2 months

Intense Mode

This mode delivers a higher total energy output of 80–90J for the entire face and may be more suitable for individuals who require more pronounced results or prefer fewer treatment sessions.

It may be suitable for:

  • Individuals who have not undergone prior anti-ageing energy-based treatments like HIFU, Ultherapy, Sofwave or Thermage

  • Those who require more noticeable improvements over a shorter period

  • Those who are looking for longer-lasting effects with fewer sessions needed

Recommended frequency:

  • Best performed as a series of 3 sessions spaced 1 month apart

  • After completing this series, the Regular Mode may be used for ongoing maintenance every 2–3 months

Your doctor will assess your skin condition and goals to determine which mode is more appropriate for your treatment plan.

What is a Pico Laser?

The pico laser (or picosecond laser) operates in both ablative and non-ablative modes. It is used for pigmentation removal, acne scars, skin rejuvenation and brightening, and tattoo removal.

The pico laser delivers ultrashort picosecond pulses, compared to the longer nanosecond pulses. The pulse duration (how much time one laser shot stays on the skin) of a picosecond laser is 100 times shorter, allowing more shots to be delivered in the same amount of time.

The shorter pulse duration means the skin heats up less, which may reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation sometimes associated with laser procedures.

Q-switch Laser vs Picosecond Laser | Mizu

How the Pico Laser works

The pico laser primarily operates at a 1064nm wavelength. Using a patented Quanta Pico-Boost Technology, Mizu’s choice of pico laser can deliver up to 1.8GW of power.

The picosecond laser breaks down pigmentation into smaller fragments, which may help the skin clear these fragments more efficiently and potentially reduce the number of treatments required.

The pico laser can clear pigmentation and tattoos in fewer sessions.

At a 1064nm wavelength, the laser targets pigmentation. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigmentation, breaking it into smaller fragments. These fragmented pigments are then removed by the skin’s immune system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the procedure painful?

The level of discomfort experienced during the procedure can vary depending on an individual’s pain tolerance and the location of the pigmented lesion(s). Most patients tolerate the laser sessions well with minimal discomfort. The laser may feel like tiny warm pricks on the skin.

Some patients may experience a pinkish flush or mild itchiness after the laser treatment. These side effects typically resolve within a few hours.

You can return to work or daily activities immediately after the laser treatment. It is advisable to avoid prolonged or intentional sun exposure for a week post-laser to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. Creams may be prescribed for this purpose.

For some patients, greying, browning, or darkening of existing pigmentation may occur before it fades. This is normal and typically resolves over time.

For certain patients, greying/browning/darkening of the existing pigmentation may be expected before it fades off. This is normal and not a cause for concern as it fades off with time.

The number of treatments needed can vary depending on the condition and type of pigmentation. Several factors influence the outcome of the treatment, including the nature of the pigmentation, skin type, skin health, hormones, sun exposure, and acne.

On average, about 4 to 6 treatments may be needed for optimal results.

Most pigmentation, like tattoos, will not return after removal. However, new pigmentation can develop due to sun exposure, ageing, and hormonal changes (mostly in women).

It is important to apply sunscreen to help prevent new pigmentation from forming. Regular maintenance treatments with the pico or Q-switched laser may also benefit some patients.

Ruby Laser https://www.mizuaesthetic.com/treatments/ruby-laser/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 09:51:01 +0000 https://sheiwaht53.sg-host.com/?post_type=treatment&p=16777

Ruby Laser

Home > Treatment

Yet another laser in Mizu’s range of pigmentation lasers, the ruby laser is a solid-state laser that uses a synthetic ruby crystal rod to emit a wavelength of 694nm to target skin pigmentation.

As one of the few clinics in Singapore to have a ruby laser, Dr YZ Tan has developed specific settings for the ruby laser, combined with components from the pico laser, unique to Mizu for treating specific pigmentation conditions.

Clinical studies suggest that pigmented lesions in Asian skin must be treated with high energy densities, making the ruby laser a suitable treatment. The ruby laser can effectively reduce pigmentation with fewer side effects due to its high absorption rate by melanin and low absorption rate by other skin components.

Ruby Laser | Mizu

What is the Ruby Laser?

Different laser treatments work in distinct ways. Since various types of pigmentation exist in different skin layers, it is essential to use a machine that can reach the affected layer.

The ruby laser, at 694nm wavelength, is used to treat epidermal pigmentation, such as freckles, sun spots, lentigos, and age spots, as well as some dermal pigmentation such as melasma.

The shorter pulse duration means the skin heats up less, which may reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation sometimes associated with laser procedures.

From the graph, it is evident that at the 694nm wavelength, the ruby laser’s energy is primarily absorbed by melanin and minimally by oxyhemoglobin and water. With hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) being a common side effect of lasers, this reduced absorption by oxyhemoglobin and water and high absorption by melanin means that the ruby laser can remove melanin (pigmentation) more effectively with a lower risk of hyperpigmentation.

This is because the ruby laser can operate at a low power setting while still allowing a significant amount of energy to be absorbed by melanin compared to other lasers. This allows the laser energy to be maximised, effectively removing pigmentation with reduced chances of side effects.

The ruby laser is particularly effective at removing deep epidermal pigments that were previously challenging to reduce with other lasers.

What conditions does the Ruby Laser treat?

The effectiveness of the ruby laser in removing a tattoo depends on the type of ink used. Studies have shown that blue, black, and green tattoos respond well to the ruby laser due to the strong absorption of red laser light.

During the tattoo removal process, the laser selectively targets the ink molecules, which are then absorbed and eliminated by macrophages (immune cells).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the ruby laser painful?

A numbing cream is applied before the ruby laser treatment to help ensure comfort during the procedure. However, some bright pink/red light may be visible even with goggles over the eyes.

There is minimal downtime, although some redness and a slight prickly sensation may be experienced post-treatment for a few minutes.

For certain pigmentation, such as freckles, there may be some scabbing, which usually lasts for 3-5 days and will fall off, leaving the skin clearer.

Some pigmentation may temporarily darken slightly after the treatment and lighten after 5-7 days.

You can return to work or daily activities immediately after the laser treatment. It is advisable to avoid prolonged or intentional sun exposure for a week post-laser to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. Creams may be prescribed for this purpose.

Not all skin is the same – and we are prepared for that.

At Mizu Aesthetic Clinic, we offer four different types of pigmentation lasers: the Ruby, PicoQ-Switched and Yellow. Each laser has distinctive features designed to treat various types of pigmentation.

Understanding that each machine has different wavelengths targeting different layers of the skin, our doctors can analyze and identify the most suitable treatment for effectively addressing various pigmentation issues.

Yellow Laser https://www.mizuaesthetic.com/treatments/yellow-laser/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 09:38:08 +0000 https://sheiwaht53.sg-host.com/?post_type=treatment&p=16771

Yellow Laser

Home > Treatment

Mizu’s Yellow laser delivers a specific wavelength of 577nm that is that is designed for the treatment of vascular conditions and epidermal pigmentation

“Glass Skin Laser” – the Yellow Laser difference

The yellow laser is sometimes referred to as the “glass skin laser” due to its ability to help achieve bright, glowy skin. Additionally, the yellow laser can help reduce pigmentation and redness, treat acne conditions, and reduce red facial veins.

The main difference between the yellow laser and other skin rejuvenation lasers is its specific wavelength. The yellow laser operates at a wavelength of 577nm, unlike predecessors that use a mixture of 532nm (green) and 577nm (yellow) wavelengths.

Yellow Laser | Mizu

The specific wavelength of 577nm means that the yellow laser can be used to safely treat various conditions such as pigmentation, rosacea, red acne marks, and uneven skin tone. The 532nm wavelength is believed to leave Asian skin more susceptible to hyperpigmentation.

“The majority of visible unwanted skin spots, discolourations, or redness (blood vessels) are rooted in a deeper vascular network of veins that extend beyond the treatable depth of traditional green (532nm) lasers. Not addressing these areas can result in recurrence and the inability to effectively treat deeper pigmented and vascular issues.”

The yellow laser, by reducing vascular conditions (blood vessels and redness), helps prevent pigmentation and prolong the results after pigmentation clearance.

Yellow Laser | Mizu

What is it used for, and how does the Yellow laser work?

The 577nm wavelength of the yellow laser is effectively absorbed by both melanin (pigmentation) and oxyhaemoglobin (blood vessels), as shown by the laser absorption graph.

Therefore, the yellow laser can treat pigmentation issues and conditions that cause redness, such as facial veins, rosacea, and acne.

Pigmentation

Where possible, pigmentation problems should be treated using a multi-modal approach. This involves combining treatments such as topical creams, medication, and different lasers for effective results.

This is because most pigmentation problems involve different types of pigmentation, each requiring different laser settings.

The yellow laser, with a 577nm wavelength, primarily treats epidermal pigmentation. Common epidermal pigmentation includes:

Melasma (epidermal type)

Café au lait birthmarks

The energy from the yellow laser is absorbed by both melanin (pigments) and underlying blood vessels. This results in the breakdown of pigments and a reduction in the blood supply to the skin cells that produce these pigments. This potentially prevents these skin cells from producing pigments, ensuring longer-lasting results.

Vascular conditions

Vascular conditions cause redness and flushing on the face due to the dilation of small superficial blood vessels in the skin. They can appear as red spots or visible threads on the skin.

The yellow laser can treat vascular conditions such as:

Facial/nose veins and blood vessels

Concern - Eyes Icon | Mizu

Redness and Rosacea

Concern - Eyes Icon | Mizu

Cherry angiomas, Telangiectasia, etc.

The yellow laser effectively targets these blood vessels, resulting in reduced redness and a more even complexion.

Acne

The yellow light energy from the yellow laser targets acne caused by P. acne bacteria by reducing these bacteria. It also helps reduce redness caused by inflammation and shrinks sebaceous glands that produce sebum (oil).

Red acne marks, also known as PIE (Post-inflammatory Erythema), form due to increased blood circulation at badly inflamed acne sites. These marks are redness that persists even after the acne heals. The yellow laser can help reduce these red marks by targeting the blood vessels in these areas.

Skin brightening (glass skin)

‘Glass Skin’ is a term popularised by Korean doctors and celebrities.

It was coined as ‘glass skin’ because the treatment achieves a glow that makes the skin look smooth and bright. The yellow laser is a treatment that can help achieve the ‘glass skin’ effect.

The yellow laser achieves the ‘glass skin’ effect by:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any downtime?

For pigmentation treatment, some pigments may appear darker initially right after the treatment. This is the ‘end point’ that doctors aim for to remove the pigments effectively. This slight darkening of the pigments usually lasts 3-7 days and is not very noticeable. In some cases, such as freckles or sun spots, some scabbing might occur to remove the pigments. The scabbing typically falls off after 3-4 days.

For the removal of red veins and red acne marks, flushed skin can be expected due to the heat. Flushing typically lasts from 2 to 24 hours and gradually subsides.

‘Glass skin’ protocols usually have no downtime except for slight pinkish skin for 15-30 minutes.

Avoid strong sun exposure for at least 1 week both BEFORE and AFTER the yellow laser. Avoid scrubbing and exfoliation for 1 week after the procedure if there is any scabbing.
